Final paragraph on the 'Special Envoy Syria' mission un.org page.
'Since the beginning of the conflict, Syria has witnessed unprecedented devastation and displacement, compounded by the violations of international
law, humanitarian law and human rights law, including the use of internationally proscribed chemical weapons. Impunity has been a hallmark of the Syrian conflict and has challenged one of the UN’s core values—accountability. An important step to
address accountability was made on 21 December 2016 when the General Assembly adopted resolution 71-248 to establish the International, Impartial, and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) to assist in the investigation and prosecution of the most serious crimes under
international law, in particular the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.'
I think we can conclude that the U.N have been entirly unsucessful, toothless and visibly absent from any servious negotiating
on the ground or at the centre of the power players over the Syria situation. Neither are they [or are they seen to be] involved actually in the planning during this aftermath phase or the future controls and planning for Syria.
U.N have shown themselves to be inneffective at any of their purpose for being [apart from at best] just a meeting point in New York for discussion. Every other Dollar/Currency is worthless and wasted.
